The Departments have specialized laboratories attached to them and facilitating implementation of the various ongoing programmes in the subject area. A Research Monitoring and Evaluation Unit working directly under the Director assists in the time to time monitoring of the research programmes.

The Central Instrumentation Unit (CIU) is a common facility providing sophisticated equipment facilities to the scientists. Other research facilitation units in the Institute include a Herbarium, a Xylarium, an Arboretum, a Canetum, a Bambusetum, an Orchidarium, a Forest Seed Center in the main campus at Peechi. A Bioresources Nature Park and a Teak Museum at the Nilambur Subcenter, and an Arboretum of Evergreen Trees at Velupadam are the other supportive units.

Fifty-eight qualified research scientists specialized in various subjects are involved in the conduct of the research programmes. The scientists are supported by temporary staff appointed in the projects.
