LIBRARY

KFRI Library is an automated library with a core collection of books and journals on the subject forestry caters to the information requirements of the scientists and research scholars of the institute. KFRI library collection includes books, journals, back volumes of journals, reports, reprints, doctoral theses, databases, etc. The rich and valued collections built over three decades have some of the rare reference materials and important journals in the subject. The library currently subscribes 92 journals including 30 foreign journals. List of books classified and catalogued, numbering more than 16,000 is available online. The library currently receives over 900 online journals through EBSCO which can be searched and articles downloaded. CD-ROM collections of the library are made available for searching through a CD server. Library currently subscribes online version of CAB Abstracts, 1990 to present.

Bibliographical databases on bamboo, teak and rattan developed by library are made available in print, CD-ROMs and online. The work of organising a digital library for forestry is also going on as part of various ongoing programmes. The collections of e-books, paper clippings, e-prints, videos, KFRI Research Reports and Scientific Papers are being made available through the library portal.

Development of databases of the contents of books, back volumes and reprints in the library is also going on and the work so far done is available for searching. Besides database search, internet search facilities are also provided. Bamboo Information Centre – India functioning from the year 1988 in the library is maintaining a collection of bamboo literature separately. Students, teachers and others interested in forestry are allowed to refer the library documents. Photocopy facility is also provided. KFRI publications are distributed from the library.

HERBARIUM

The KFRI Herbarium is internationally recognized with the acronym KFRI. Herbarium

It has a collection of 1851 species belonging to 894 genera and 194 families. In all, there are 8500 specimens of various species from the Western Ghats of Kerala.

XYLARIUM

Xylarium

Xylarium is a collection of wood specimens of various tree species. KFRI Xylarium has specimens of 499 tree species including indigenous and exotic.
